Queen Elizabeth Hospital Easing Back into Full Operation Mode

* Health [to Jan 2010]
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital will be easing back into full operation mode following a fire in the hospital’s laundry department, QEH Executive Director, Rob Philpott confirmed today.

Mr. Philpott says, “Over the next few days, we will begin to address the backlog of patient procedures that resulted from yesterday’s fire. We will be prioritizing patients according to their level of need. We anticipate we will be back into full operation mode by Monday.”

“I’d like to recognize the incredible teamwork among staff, physicians, the internal fire response team, volunteers and the Charlottetown Fire Department who all helped avoid a more critical situation for the hospital,” said Mr. Philpott. “It is also important to recognize the staff and physicians who handled emergency cases throughout this situation.”

Over the past day, this incident has been thoroughly investigated by staff in consultation with industry experts. The hospital administration, staff and physicians have been assured that all necessary precautions have been taken and the facility meets hospital standards for the delivery of safe patient care.
