The community of Miscouche is celebrating the opening of a new residential subdivision, which was funded through the Canada-PEI Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF). The federal, provincial and municipal governments each provided one-third of the total cost of the $327,000 project.

“Canada’s New Government is proud to partner in projects that strengthen the social and economic well-being of Island communities,” said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). “Our government is pleased to invest close to $110,000 in this new subdivision, which will help grow the community of Miscouche.”

“The result of this project is a quality, fully serviced subdivision for Miscouche,” says the Honourable Carolyn Bertram, Minister of Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour. “The positive social and economic impacts on the community will be very significant and the government of Prince Edward Island is proud to have helped make this project a reality.”

“This new subdivision will help our community expand, providing people with fully developed sites on which they can construct new homes right here in Miscouche,” says Peter Mallett, Chair of the Miscouche Community Council. “We would like to thank both the federal and provincial governments for the financial support for this endeavor.”

The new subdivision is located off MacMillan Drive and has newly completed streets, lots and infrastructure ready for the construction of 14 new homes.

The community of Miscouche will be responsible for issuing all building permits, the sale of all lots and maintenance of the infrastructure.

The community used $54,500 of its allocation under the Gas Tax Fund toward their third of the project costs.
