The provincial government has conveyed 4.8 acres of land to the Crapaud Exhibition Association. The Association had been leasing the land since 1977, and acquiring ownership will enable it to enhance its facilities.
The deed was officially conveyed to the Association by Transportation and Public Works Minister Mike Currie and Agriculture and Forestry Minister Eric Hammill earlier this week.
"This reflects the policy of the provincial government to help strengthen rural communities," said Mr. Currie. "We are pleased to support the Crapaud Exhibition Association in its expansion plans."
Mr. Hammill said that turning over ownership of the property to the Association also recognizes the important role that voluntary organizations play in rural areas of the province. "The Crapaud Exhibition has been very successful in promoting Island agriculture and providing a showcase for our agricultural products," he said.
Crapaud Exhibition directors Arnold Stewart and Eric Dixon accepted the deed to the property on behalf of the Association.
"Now that we have acquired ownership of the property, we are in a better position to make long-term plans," said Mr. Stewart. "We are already planning some improvements to the Exhibition grounds which will help us with our programs in future years."
The first Crapaud Exhibition was held in the early 1950s. Along with the provincial tractor-pulling competition, it attracts more than 20,000 visitors a year.
