The Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission announced today the retail price of domestic beer will increase effective September 1, 2007. The new retail price for beer will increase to $19.89 per dozen – an increase of $0.59 per dozen over last year. Included in the retail price is the $1.20 empty bottle refund.
The Brewers requested this price increase which is directly attributable to their rising raw material costs. The beer manufacturers have increased their prices to the other Maritime Provinces in the Spring of 2007 and this is the first increase for P.E.I. since July 2006.
The Commission has also made changes to spirits pricing as a result of manufacturers adjustments and their increased raw material costs. Retail prices will increase between $0.45 and $1.00 per 750 ml and will continue to be competitive with the other Atlantic Liquor Jurisdictions. There will be no changes to wine retail prices.
