Starting December 15, 2007, Air Canada will offer year-round service between Charlottetown and Toronto.
“Air Canada’s decision offers Islanders a further option for air travel,” Premier Robert Ghiz said. “Additional winter service will be particularly helpful to Island businesses – and I am pleased they will begin to offer these flights this year.”
The decision follows a series of discussions between the Provincial Government and the airline.
Charlottetown Airport Authority CEO Doug Newson said the announcement will contribute to meeting the needs of Islanders.
“Increased frequency of service is great news for the traveling public. Our passenger traffic continues to grow and, accordingly, this announcement by Air Canada is welcomed and shows the continued confidence of our airline partners in the Prince Edward Island market,” Mr. Newson said.
“With demand still increasing, we will continue to encourage all our airline partners to continually improve and increase service and access to the Island. Visitors want to fly here – and it has been proven that when added flights are offered the Island market responds. We have no doubt that this additional Toronto direct service will be a success for Air Canada and be a benefit and convenience to all consumers.”
Beginning 15 December, the airline will offer four direct return flights to Toronto four days per week. The Air Canada Jazz 50-seat jet will travel between the two provincial capitals Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
