On May 30, get up, get out, get active and be counted! That’s the message from the PEI Active Living Alliance and the provincial Division of Sport and Recreation for International Challenge Day.
Challenge Day is a friendly international competition that takes place on the last Wednesday of every May. Similar sized communities are paired up in a fun competition to mobilize the highest percentage of people in 15 minutes of physical activity.
On Wednesday, May 30 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., residents in Prince Edward Island will be competing against the people of Paraná, Brazil to see which area can generate the highest participation of physical activity for 15 minutes among residents on that day.
“This is the first time we are taking part in this fun competition since it began in 1983, and we want to prove that we can do it,” said Lynn MacInnis, Stepping Out Coordinator with the PEI Active Living Alliance.
Workplaces, schools and communities are encouraged to join in and get everyone active for 15 minutes on Wednesday. Islanders can record their participation by logging into the website: www.peichallengeday.ca
“We need to know about your activity so we can count it as part of the challenge. Feel free to log on for yourself or a group. Just make sure you record the total number of people who were active,” reminded Ms. MacInnis.
