October 20, 1997 * Agriculture and Forestry [to Oct 2003]A young Prince Edward Island exhibitor was a big winner at the recent Atlantic Winter Fair in Halifax. Verna Docherty of Hampshire received the Showmanship Award at the 1997 All Breeds Junior Show. The top prize is a weekend trip to the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado, plus $500 in cash. She also received a $300 prize for placing second with her calf in the Conformation class. The second place winner in the Showmanship class was Andrew Godfrey of Meadowbank. Other Island finalists were Brett Francis, Tryon, and George Dixon Jr., Kingston. First place in the Conformation class was won by another Island exhibitor, Ian Richardson of Lot 16 who showed a Simmental calf from Tiny Acres Farm. Finalists in this class from Prince Edward Island were Krista Mutch, Earnscliffe, and Chelsey Francis, Tryon. The highly competitive All Breeds Junior Show was one of the new features at this year's Atlantic Winter Fair.
