Premier Binns Congratulates Egmont MP Joe McGuire On Retirement From Public Service

Premier's Office
Premier Pat Binns today issued the following statement on the announced retirement of the Honourable Joe McGuire, MP:

“For nearly two decades, Joe McGuire has served the people of Egmont and Prince Edward Island in the House of Commons, becoming one of the longest-serving MP’s in the history of the riding of Egmont. Over the years, we have had the opportunity to work together closely on many files to advance the interests of Prince Edward Island, particularly in Summerside and other parts of Prince County. Although we come from different sides of the aisle politically, I’ve always been impressed by Mr. McGuire’s dedication to public service and to our province. On behalf of the province, I would like to thank Mr. McGuire for his efforts on behalf of Prince Edward Island and wish Joe, his wife Mary, and all their family well as they begin a new chapter in their lives.”

First elected to the House of Commons in 1988, Mr. McGuire served as Prince Edward Island’s representative in the federal Cabinet from 2003 to 2006, holding the portfolio of Minister for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
