Patrick Knox, a Team PEI Judo competitor from Cornwall, has been selected as the flag bearer for Team PEI at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2007 Canada Winter Games.
This is the third set of Canada Games for Patrick, who first became involved in Judo when he visited the Rikidokan Judo Club in Charlottetown while at his brother’s hockey game. Following the Canada Games in Whitehorse, Yukon, he will be competing with the Canadian junior judo team in Germany in March. He is the Junior National Champion 100+kg, Senior National Runner-up, Quebec Open Jr & Sr Champion, Ontario Open Jr Champion, Ontario Open Sr 5th place; and he represented Canada at International Tournament / Training Camp in Bremen, Germany finishing in 5th place.
Patrick recently won gold at the Eastern Canadians in wrestling. On March 15-18, 2007 he will be a key member of the PEI team taking part at the junior nationals in Charlottetown. He is the Greco Roman Wrestling Junior National Champion in Heavyweight Division.
The opening ceremonies for the 2007 Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse, Yukon, will be televised live on CBC Newsworld Friday at 8 p.m.
