October 3, 1997 Hon. Wilbur MacDonald, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, announced today that the contract has been awarded for the installation of cameras necessary to provided televised coverage of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The Legislative Management Committee reviewed the proposals submitted by a number of companies and awarded the contract to Smith Sound. Speaker MacDonald says "Work will begin this week so that the cameras will be in place for a fall session of the Assembly." The installation of the cameras will provide for the broadcast of the actual proceedings of the Assembly. The Speaker says "it is appropriate that this major step forward in providing public access to the debates and activities of the Assembly is taking place this year which marks the 150th anniversary of Province House." TV coverage of the Legislative Assembly was announced in the Speech from the Throne. Audio proceeding of the Assemlby are already provided on the Internet along with the Hansard.
