Price Increase

The Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission announced today retail price changes for wines and spirits effective October 2, 2006. The price changes are a result of higher excise taxes which increased on July 1, 2006, in conjunction with the Federal budget and some imported wines and spirits have decreased due to the strong Canadian dollar. The impact of the higher excise taxes will cause a price increase in all Provinces.

For some brands, manufacturers have absorbed the increases while other manufacturers are allowing the increases to flow through at retail. The average increase on mainstream brands will be approximately $0.25 per 750 ml.
