New Lieutenant Governor to be Sworn in Monday

Barbara Hagerman will be sworn in by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island as Prince Edward Island's 40th Lieutenant Governor on July 31 at Province House.

His Honour J. LĂ©once Bernard will address Islanders for the last time as Vice-Regal at a short ceremony in the Legislative Chamber at 11 a.m. The installation of Mrs. Hagerman will proceed immediately following Mr. Bernard's farewell address. Barbara Hagerman will present her Commission of Appointment to the Executive Council. The Honourable Gerard E. Mitchell, Chief Justice of Prince Edward Island, will administer the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office to Mrs. Hagerman.

Premier Pat Binns and the Honourable Peter MacKay will formally represent the Governments of Prince Edward Island and Canada, respectively.

The public will be restricted to the first floor of Province House on Monday until the conclusion of the installation ceremony.
