The first edition of the new Canadian professional golf event, Making the Connection® Legends of Golf, which took place June 19 - 20, featuring Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson will air for the first time on Global TV Sunday, July 16 at 1:00 AST.
The first of six scheduled broadcasts will feature Canada’s premier golf destination, Prince Edward Island, as official host to the new event, which was played at Dundarave Golf Course before a live gallery of 6,700.
“The true value of hosting the Legends events on Prince Edward Island is the exposure we receive through the various broadcast and editorial opportunities provided through our partnership with IMG,” said Minister of Tourism, Philip Brown. “We were very pleased with the way the event unfolded for the thousands of spectators on site, but we’re even more excited about the way Prince Edward Island will be featured to countries around the world as a golf and tourism destination.”
PGA Tour colour commentator David Feherty and PEI’s own, Lorie Kane, two legends in their own right, were the perfect ambassadors to provide insights from the golf course for those watching the event at home. “I expect the two hour telecast will be very entertaining given David Feherty’s wit and Lorie’s knowledge of Prince Edward Island,” said Minister Brown.
Making the Connection Legends of Golf, a partnership between IMG Canada, Tourism PEI and Making the Connection, will also be broadcast on RDS, in the US on New England Sports Network, as well as in Spain, the UK and Germany. Further broadcast opportunities continue to be developed.
Minister Brown concluded, “The event was as much about the special relationships between the game’s legendary players as it is about watching them compete in one of Canada’s most spectacular golf settings. Mark your schedules to take in the game on July 16 at 1:00 Atlantic Standard Time on Global TV.”
