Investments will be made to improve safety and accessibility at one of Prince Edward Island’s more popular beach areas, Transportation and Public Works Minister Gail Shea announced today.

“The beach at Tracadie is one of the more popular beach destinations in the province,” said Transportation and Public Works Minister Gail Shea. “The investment announced today to improve public safety and accessibility will benefit Islanders and visitors to our province by helping enhance their recreational experience.”

The Province will invest $65,000 to perform upgrades to the vehicular parking areas and improve beach access. Due to the heavy use of the Tracadie beach area during the summer months and the lack of an off-road parking area at this location, beach users have historically parked along the sides of the road often blocking the road to other traffic and emergency response vehicles.

To help facilitate the improvements to be made at Tracadie beach, the province has negotiated a land exchange agreement with adjacent landowners, Ms. Carrie MacNabb and Mr. Tim Banks, to secure a parking area for public use and safety reasons. Shea noted that without this cooperation received from the adjacent landowners the project would not have been able to proceed. Shea thanked Mr. Banks and Ms. MacNabb for their support and assistance in helping make the project a reality.

“Making improvements to the beach area at Tracadie will help improve access to this popular location, particularly for emergency vehicles providing improved public safety. This will certainly add to the quality experience one receives when frequenting the beach area at Tracadie,” said Education Minister and Attorney General Mildred Dover, MLA for Tracadie-Fort Augustus.

The project has received all required permits to proceed and the work has been budgeted for within the existing capital budget framework.
