Chairman Gordon Coles announced today that extensive renovations will begin at the Souris Liquor Store in the fall of this year with an anticipated opening of approximately December 1, 2006. Both the interior and the exterior will be renovated.
The Hon. Michael Currie, Minister Responsible for the Liquor Control Commission, said “The Souris Liquor Store is long overdue for a major retrofit and is part of the Commission’s mandate to upgrade the store system.”
The Souris Liquor Store building and property are owned by the P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission. The building was constructed and opened in May 1970. The store has remained open for the past 36 years without any major capital improvements; it is tired, worn and requires a major retrofit.
Chief Executive Officer, Wayne MacDougall stated that William Chandler, Architect has been hired to provide architectural services for this project.
The newly renovated store will feature cold beer, wine and spirit coolers, and an increased selection in spirits and fine wines from around the world which will result in a better shopping environment for customers.
The renovation of the Souris Liquor Store is part of the Commission’s strategic plan to renovate all its facilities across Prince Edward Island. The renovation is also part and parcel of the Commission’s mandate to manage the distribution of beverage alcohol in a manner that meets the needs of the consumer.
