12th Annual Wine Festival at Charlottetown Civic Centre

The 12th Annual PEI Spring Wine Festival is set for this Friday and Saturday, June 2 - 3 at the Civic Centre in Charlottetown, and it promises to be a social event worth attending. More than 190 wines from the leading wine producing countries of the world will be available for tasting and purchasing at the two-day event, with tasting sessions scheduled for Friday 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. and Saturday 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. Peter Dennis and Alan Heath, prominent wine producers from as far away as Australia, as well as suppliers and agents from all across Canada, will be here at the Festival. The Wine Boutique will be open Friday from 1:30 - 10:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

In addition to the wide range of wines, the Spring Wine Festival also features a Silent Auction of spectacular wine-related products with all proceeds donated to the Island Hospice Association. The Silent Auction items, which include Signature wines from some of the most respected wineries in Europe and Australia and “one of a kind” items, will be on display throughout the Festival. Approximately half of these items will sell via silent auction on Friday evening and the remaining on Saturday evening. Bids close approximately half an hour before the end of the tasting sessions. This Silent Auction is one of the major fund raisers for the Island Hospice Charity. One of the more interesting Silent Auction items is a trip to France to participate in a three-day Wine Connoisseur Course at the beautiful Chateau Magnol facilities in Bordeaux. Be sure to visit this Silent Auction item. Bids for this ticket item will be accepted Friday and Saturday.

Once again, this year’s Wine Festival will also feature Art Exhibits from some of PEI’s finest artists which will be on display and for sale throughout the Festival.

The first tasting session goes Friday from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. and the second tasting session runs Saturday from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. An array of ADL cheeses will be available during the show as will breads from Ben’s Bakery.

Tickets for the tasting sessions are available for $30.00 at all PEILCC stores or at the Wine Festival main lobby.
