The appointment of five senior directors in the Department of Health and Social Services was announced today by Health and Social Services Minister Mildred Dover.
The appointments result from staffing competitions recently conducted as part of the amalgamation of the former Health and Community Services Agency with the Department of Health and Social Services.
The five successful applicants are Jake Baird, Director of Corporate Services; Carol Anne Duffy, Director of Acute, Medical and Continuing Care; Teresa Hennebery, Director of Health Promotion and Protection; Gordon MacKay, Director of Child, Family and Community Services; and Herman McQuaid, Director of Finance, Administration and Health Informatics.
The directors will form the Department's senior management team along with Verna Bruce, Deputy Minister; Dr. Don Ling, Provincial Medical Director; and Dr. Lamont Sweet, Chief Health Officer.
Minister Dover said the new management team combines the strengths of several senior provincial staff with some new faces from the health regions and other government sectors. "I am confident that the restructuring and the appointment of such excellent candidates will provide strong direction and needed stability in the health system," said Minister Dover.
She indicated that the new positions are not additional ones. The restructured management team consists of eight positions compared to fifteen positions held previously in the two organizations.
The appointments are effective immediately.
