PEI Company Grows Staff 12 to 80 in Three Years

As a result of increased sales from regional and international contracts, Cabinetmaster Architectural Woodwork Limited (CAWL) has increased its staff significantly over the last three years. In 2002, when Gordie Kirkpatrick, general manager and owner, purchased the company, he employed 12 people. Today, 80 employees work at the Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island facility, which now operates three shifts, 24 hours a day, five days a week.

Cabinetmaster is a premier manufacturer and supplier of commercial casework and millwork to architects, general contractors and clients in financial, hospitality, institutional, and commercial applications. The company executes projects throughout Canada, the United States and the Carribean.

“Thanks to the hard work and perseverance of Gordie Kirkpatrick and his staff at Cabinetmaster, the economy of this province will continue to prosper,” said Development and Technology Minister Mike Currie. “Every dollar that comes into this province is a new dollar for our economy. The company has been aggressive in seeking out contracts and, as a result, has grown their company more than six times larger in just three years.”

Cabinetmaster has recently expanded the business by renting approximately 5,000 square feet of extra space to be used for additional finishing, final assembly and packaging. This new space will improve work flow and efficiency for the company.

“It’s been a very productive few years and our dedicated workforce has enabled us to compete in the global market,” said Kirkpatrick. “With the amount of reconstruction in the Southern States, this will not slow down in the foreseeable future.”

Cabinetmaster Architectural Woodwork Limited was established in 2002. In 2003, the company relocated to the old Coca Cola bottling plant where they presently have 15,000 square feet of manufacturing space.

Through the Rental Incentive program, PEI Business Development invested $20,000 towards the business expansion at Cabinetmaster.
