The Island theatre community has gotten together to promote theatre on PEI. In cooperation with Tourism PEI, the newly formed Island Theatre Association has begun an aggressive marketing campaign to promote their product.
A new brochure entitled PEI Playbill has been produced and is being distributed across the Atlantic Provinces. "More and more quality theatre is being offered in PEI," said Wes MacAleer, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism. "Smaller community theatres are being revitalized and offering the same quality productions as the larger stages."
Through membership fees and a contribution from Tourism PEI through the Regional Economic Development Agreement, the association has also been able to launch an advertising campaign in maritime newspapers and on radio stations in major centres. A large two-page ad appeared in both the Chronicle Herald and Telegraph-Journal last week.
"Our partnership with Tourism PEI has given us the opportunity to promote this important tourism product," said Brian Stevens, Project Coordinator, Island Theatre Association. "We are also taking the opportunity to advertise in theatre programs across the region."
Members of the association include The Georgetown Theatre; Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre; Carrefour Theatre; Orwell Corner Hall; The Charlottetown Festival; The Arts Guild; Kirk of Saint James; Triple Threats Children's Theatre; Victoria Playhouse; Brother's Two Dinner Theatre; Charlottetown Dinner Theatre; Le Village Dinner Theatre; Myrons Dinner Theatre; Tignish Dinner Theatre; and Eddie May Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre.
