As Director, Ms. Martin will oversee the operations of the Inter-Ministerial Women’s Secretariat (IWS). The Secretariat also works closely with the Advisory Council on the Status of Women.

“Here on Prince Edward Island, we’re fortunate to have the both the Secretariat and the Advisory Council on the Status of Women providing leadership and support to help advance issues for Island women. I’m very pleased to have someone as capable as Ms. Martin serving in this key role,” said Shea in announcing the appointment, which followed a competition conducted by the Prince Edward Island Public Service Commission.

“I’m very pleased to be taking on this new role and I look forward to working with the many community groups and other organizations which are involved in helping advance women’s issues on Prince Edward Island each and every day,” said Martin. Shea advised that Ms. Martin brings considerable experience to the position, having held a variety of leadership positions in the public sector at both the federal and provincial levels, with an emphasis on health, education and human resource issues. Ms. Martin previously served as Provincial Pay Equity Commissioner and Executive Director of the Women’s Secretariat. Her most recent position was as Director of Policy, Planning, and Evaluation with the Department of Education.

Ms. Martin replaces Sandra Bentley, who recently retired from the provincial government. Shea thanked Bentley for her many years of dedicated service.
