The Links at Crowbush Cove will be the site for this year's Canadian Amateur Championship. Long heralded as one of the most important tournaments in Canada, this will be the first time the event has been held on the Island.

The tournament will bring to PEI almost 120 Canadian golfers plus entrants from other countries. It is expected that close to 140 golfers will be participating in this year's tournament.

"Prince Edward Island has earned a solid reputation as being a premier golf destination and this tournament continues to add to its lustre. This event is an important event for promoting Prince Edward Island golf across the country," said Pat Mella, Provincial Treasurer, speaking at a news conference on behalf of Wes MacAleer, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism. "The eyes of Canada will be on the Links at Crowbush Cove when the event airs on national television."

"The Links at Crowbush Cove is a superb course and will provide an excellent challenge to this year's entrants," said Martin Francoeur, RCGA tournament chair. "The quality of the volunteer committee, who come from all clubs across PEI and the host course, is sure to make this year's event a success."

During the news conference, Fred Coady, co-chair of the tournament announced this year's Willingdon Cup Champions from PEI. These players will represent the province at the Canadian Amateur Championship. The team consists of Darren Noonan, Ernie Corrigan, Roddy Willis and Rob MacCormack of Charlottetown.

The Canadian Amateur Championship will run from August 18 - 24 at the Links at Crowbush Cove.
