Project Team On Public/Private Partnering To Be Formed For The Replacement of Athena School

Honorable Chester Gillan, Minister of Education, announced today the formation of a project team to initiate Public/Private Partnering (PPP) for the replacement of the Athena School in Summerside.

"The replacement of Athena remains a priority for the Department of Education. We are working towards an efficient and timely solution; however, we are also working to ensure that we structure the process of replacement in a responsible manner," said Minister Gillan.

"A project team consisting of government representatives, community members and technical experts will be formed to move forward the replacement of Athena."

The PPP approach to school replacement will provide a first time opportunity in this province to work collaboratively on school construction, according to Minister Gillan.

A PPP approach to school replacement consists of a private-public arrangement in which the private and public sectors share the risks and opportunities of meeting a public sector need.
