Flags Lowered in Honour of Slain Mounties

Premier's Office
Premier Pat Binns today expressed shock and dismay at the news that four Royal Canadian Mounted Police members in rural Alberta were killed violently while in the line of duty.

“I am deeply saddened that these four brave Canadians were killed in a senseless act of violence, and I am deeply troubled that a symbol of our Canadian identity, the Mountie, has been attacked in such a devastating manner,” stated the Premier.

As a small measure of respect and condolence, the Premier asked that all flags flown at Government of Prince Edward Island properties be lowered to half-mast.

“I join all Islanders in extending my thoughts and prayers to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased. This is a particularly difficult time and I cannot imagine the extent of their grief.”
