Provincial Parks Prepare For Active Season

A provincial parks photo contest, "Capture the Experience," was among several new initiatives that the Hon. Mitch Murphy, Minister of Community Affairs and Attorney General, announced at a news conference held in Cabot Park today, where he was representing Tourism PEI Minister Wes MacAleer. Cash prizes will be awarded in four categories of the contest, and the overall winner will have a chance to appear in the television production, Emily of New Moon.

"I am pleased to announce that in addition to our usual excellent naturalist, festival and surfguard programs, the Prince Edward Brass will be performing children's concerts in provincial parks across the Island throughout the summer. This will add a lively new cultural dimension to the park scene and we certainly encourage Islanders as well as visitors to take in their concerts," said Minister Murphy.

Also new to Cabot Park will be tours of the Emily of New Moon television set. During the days when shooting is not taking place, free guided tours of the set will be offered. This is a chance to see first-hand how television programs are made.

The Minister concluded by inviting all Islanders to enjoy the many programs and services available in the 27 provincial parks.

"These are your parks and I encourage you all to enjoy them. Bring a picnic, have a swim, take a tour or enjoy a concert -- and of course, bring your camera and get

your entries in to our contest!"
