Provincial Flags Lowered to Honour Tsunami Victims

Premier's Office
The Honourable Pat Binns, Premier of Prince Edward Island, today announced the province will honour the victims of the Southeast Asian earthquake and tsunami disaster by lowering flags at all provincial buildings to half-mast until January 10, 2005.

“The impact of this disaster has been felt throughout the world and Islanders continue to be deeply saddened by the devastation,” said Premier Binns.

The Premier said he is proud of the outpouring of support offered by Islanders, as well as the efforts of the PEI Division of the Canadian Red Cross and other relief agencies.

“The generosity of Islanders always shines through, particularly in times like this,” noted the Premier. “We offer our prayers to those who have lost loved ones and to those who continue to bring aid, relief and hope to those who remain.”

The Province of Prince Edward Island has joined in the efforts to support disaster victims by announcing all Liquor Control Commission retail outlets and all Access PEI outlets will accept monetary donations on behalf of the Canadian Red Cross, as well as a $20,000 donation to the PEI Chapter of the Canadian Red Cross for emergency aid.
