September 3, 2004 * Transportation and Public Works [to Jan 2010]The Department of Transportation and Public Works today issued an advisory to the traveling public about upcoming highway reconstruction work along a section of Route 2. Beginning September 7 and running through until the end of October, the Malpeque Road along Route 2 between the Sherwood Road and the Trans Canada Highway will be under construction. This area of roadway will see a widening of the road with additional lanes added as well as construction of a signalized intersection to accommodate future commercial development activities. Another benefit of this work will be the closure of 10 existing driveway access points to the Malpeque Road which will enhance traffic safety in the area. “Route 2 is one of the main gateways to the City of Charlottetown,” said Transportation and Public Works Minister Gail Shea. “By reducing the number of access points along this section of road, safety for the traveling public will be increased and adding additional lanes will improve the traffic flow in and out of the city.” Shea also advised that motorists should approach this area with caution and obey all traffic control personnel on site during the construction period. Shea thanked the public for their cooperation.Media Contact: Jeff Himelman
