Alanna Stetson of Freetown is the winner of the 2004 Government of Prince Edward Island Marine Atlantic bursary which was created by the provincial government as an ongoing expression of appreciation to Marine Atlantic employees for the important contribution they made to the Island way of life for 80 years as providers of the Borden-Cape Tormentine ferry service.

The $3000 bursary is awarded annually to a student who is entering post-secondary education for the first time and is a dependent of a former Marine Atlantic employee.

“It is with great pleasure we present the bursary this year to Alanna Stetson who has excelled in academics, sports and community activities during her seventeen years,” said Minister Dover. “We are very pleased to support her on her way to further success while honouring the contributions of her family members and other Marine Atlantic employees.”

Alanna is the daughter of Faron and Brenda Stetson of South Freetown. Her father worked as a transfer operator with Marine Atlantic. Her grandfather, Alvin Stetson and great-grandfather Willard Stetson were also Marine Atlantic employees.
