Heavy Rainfall Advisory

* Community and Cultural Affairs [to Jun 2007]
The PEI Emergency Measures Organization advises the public that Environment Canada has published a heavy rainfall warning for all of Prince Edward Island on Tuesday.

The remnants of tropical storms Gaston and Hermine look likely to merge over the gulf of Maine Tuesday morning. The tropical moisture from these systems will bring rain, heavy at times, to most of the Maritimes. It is too early to judge where the heaviest rainfalls will occur, but widespread rainfalls of 50 millimetres are likely with locally higher amounts in heavier downpours.

Small streams and watercourses will see significant increases in flows and levels.

People living or working in low-lying areas or areas prone to flooding should watch the weather forecasts and take appropriate safety measures.

Weather updates are available on the Environment Canada Website at: http://www.weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca/warnings/pei_e.html.
