Ten students are on their way to Ottawa to visit Nortel Technologies. The ten were part of a group of 32 grade nine students from across the province who took part in the Youth in Business and Technology program. The program, which was administered and delivered by ITAP, linked the students with facilitators. Together, they developed business plans for an information technology business.
The students did their work after school and on weekends. On June 12, they pitched their ideas to a panel of judges.
“I was extremely impressed with what I saw at those pitch session,” said program facilitator Kent England. “Some of the people in the audience had seen pitches done by much older people and they felt these grade nine students held their own or, in some cases, did even better.”
The students did their pitches at the sound stage at the Atlantic Technology Centre. Their efforts were webcast to an audience who watched them in the InterActive theatre. The pitches can be seen at http://cs.kidzonline.org/yibat/School/Home
