The Royal Canadian Army Cadets are celebrating 100 years in Prince Edward Island with a Web site that looks at the history of Army Cadets in the province. The cadets were able to construct the Web site because of a grant from Technology PEI’s Between Generations program.
The theme of the PEI Regiment’s project is “Cadets; Past and Present.” The cadets interviewed seniors who were former cadets on PEI, some of whom later joined the military during World War II and the Korean War. The cadets spoke with the seniors about why they joined cadets and learned about what it was like to be a cadet in the early days.
The Web site features interviews with the seniors as well as photographs and newspaper clippings. Some of the photographs the cadets collected for the Web site have never been on public display.
“This project is an excellent example of how young people can use technology to learn about and share things that are relevant to their lives,” said Development and Technology Minister Mike Currie. “Their work has helped them to understand the value of the Army Cadet movement and will also be available to teach others.”
The cadets will unveil their Web site at a ceremony which will follow their anniversary parade. The parade will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, beginning at the government buildings and ending at the Charlottetown Armory.
Technology PEI is the Government of Prince Edward Island’s lead agency in the development, adoption and use of information technologies in business and community in the province.
