Trade Team P.E.I. is in Ireland until May 8, and six Prince Edward Island companies and organizations will have an opportunity to meet face-to-face with businesses from Ireland during this seven-day mission.
The mission, organized in cooperation with the Canadian Embassy in Dublin, is building on the progress achieved during two previous trade missions to Ireland in October 2001 and 2002, which resulted in projected sales of more than $16 million.
“Trade missions are about opening up new export opportunities. PEI exports to Ireland have increased over the past three years and this mission will allow PEI companies to make new contacts,” said the Honourable Joe McGuire, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
“Trade missions by Prince Edward Island companies, like this one to Ireland, have proven to be very successful,” said Michael F. Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. “Exports in this province to all parts of the world have increased significantly over the past few years and I think we can tie that success directly to our trade mission program.”
Participants in the Trade Team P.E.I. mission to Ireland include Atlantic Canada Home, Built-Rite Homes Ltd., MF Schurman Company Limited, Holland College, Bergmark, Guimond, Hammarlund & Jones, and the University of Prince Edward Island.
A highlight of the mission will be the official opening of Ireland’s first Super E® home in Dublin by Atlantic Canada Home Ireland (ACHI), a partner of Charlottetown-based, Atlantic Canada Home (ACH) on May 7, 2004.
Atlantic Canada Home is owned by a consortium of experienced Atlantic Canadian residential building material manufacturers and construction service companies. The Super E ®House Program partners Canadian exporters of housing systems and technology with Irish builders who understand local conditions. It addresses the need for more energy efficient housing and consumer demand for timber frame. A total of six Super E® units will be built by ACHI.
Trade Team P.E.I is a partnership of federal and provincial government departments and agencies that offer various forms of export assistance to active and potential exporters. The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Prince Edward Island Business Development Inc. are among its partners.
