BSI Management Systems (BSI), an independent ISO auditor, has announced that the PEI Food Technology Centre (FTC) has successfully completed the required transition audit to the ISO 9001:2000 quality standard.
FTC was first issued a Certificate of Registration to the ISO 9001:1994 quality standard in May, 1999, making it the first Food Technology Centre in Canada registered to any of the ISO 9000 series of quality standards.
The international ISO certification is awarded to organizations that successfully apply an effective quality management system (QMS). The QMS focuses on providing quality service, achieving customer satisfaction, measuring product and process conformance, and implementing continual process improvement. All components of the QMS are subject to rigorous internal and independent third-party audits to verify compliance to the standard and demonstrate effectiveness.
With the year 2000 revision of the standard, quality objectives, continual improvement, and monitoring of customer satisfaction provide our customers with increased assurances that their needs and expectations will be met.
“By upgrading to ISO 9000:2000 certification, FTC is demonstrating its continued commitment to quality in product development, service and support to the food and bioresource processing industry,” said Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology.
“The upgrade effort has already led to a measurable improvement in customer satisfaction. The new version of ISO further strengthens FTC’s core business processes and our commitment to quality, which is at the heart of our mission and vision,” said Dr. Jim Smith, FTC’s Executive Director.
BSI is the world's leading registrar, with over 35,500 registered clients in 86 countries.
The Food Technology Centre’s mission is to create wealth for Prince Edward Island through innovation and technical support for the food and bioresource industries.
