March 5, 2004 Premier's OfficePremier Pat Binns today announced that the Acadian flag will fly over Province House in Charlottetown for the remainder of this year in celebration of the 400th Anniversary of the Acadian landing on PEI. “The Acadian flag will fly above Province House for the rest of this year in celebration of the Acadian culture and presence in Atlantic Canada and to commemorate the great Acadians who had made outstanding contributions to society on PEI,” Premier Binns said. “It is a privilege to have the opportunity to celebrate Acadie’s 400th Anniversary in PEI. The rich and historical traditions of the Acadian people have contributed greatly to the diverse and special culture we have on the Island. I encourage everyone to get out to experience celebrations this year and enjoy the performances involved with Acadie 400!” Celebrations have been taking place in the province since the official kick-off in November 2003.
