February 10, 2004 * Education [to Apr 2008]Today on national Teacher and Staff Appreciation Day, Education Minister Mildred Dover acknowledged with appreciation the great contributions of Island teachers and school staff. Minister Dover advised that Prince Edward Island has one of the best education systems in the world, and much of this can be attributed to the dedicated teachers who are entrusted with the responsibility to help children develop to their full potential. "Every day, our teachers make a lasting contribution to the lives of children," said the minister. "They create positive learning environments that prepare young people for success. They volunteer their time to activities which support many aspects of student life. Through their own commitment to lifelong learning, they inspire students to continue learning, and to be the best that they can be." Deputy Minister of Education Shauna Sullivan Curley advised that many activities are being organized in schools throughout the Island this week to recognize teachers, administrators and support staff, bus drivers and others. "Home and School volunteers, school councils, parents and students are making special efforts to thank teachers and staff for their dedication and commitment," she said. "By organizing luncheons and snacks and sending cards and greetings, they are recognizing the tremendous responsibility we give to our teachers and staff. We join them in saying thank you for a job well done."Media Contact: Jean Doherty
