New Island Waste Management Corporation CEO Hired

* Transportation and Public Works [to Jan 2010]
The provincial government today announced the appointment of Mr. Gerry Moore from Charlottetown as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Island Waste Management Corporation.

The announcement was made by Transportation and Public Works Minister Gail Shea, Minister responsible for Island Waste Management Corporation, following completion of the recruitment process by the Public Service Commission.

"Over the past several years, great progress has been made on the part of Islanders to improve the quality of our environment, and Waste Watch is a big part of that. During the first Annual Waste Watch Update, we said that we would be taking steps to enhance service for Islanders as we move from a mainly development phase to the operational phase. The selection of Mr. Moore to lead IWMC into the future is another step in that process," said Transportation and Public Works Minister Gail Shea.

Mr. Moore was selected following a recruitment process carried out by the Public Service Commission. The position was advertised both locally and regionally, with considerable interest shown from candidates applying for the position from both on and off Island. Following the interview process, the successful candidate was appointed by Executive Council on the recommendation of the Minister of Transportation and Public Works and a selection committee consisting of the Chairman of the Board for IWMC, the Deputy Minister of Transportation and Public Works, and the CEO of the Public Service Commission.

Mr. Moore has extensive background and experience in retail and commercial business operation, customer service, public relations, distribution and logistics, and financial management gained in both the private and public sectors. Mr. Moore has held senior management positions with a number of companies operating on Prince Edward Island including Irving Oil, Midland Transport and Cavendish Farms. Mr. Moore is currently employed as an account executive with Prince Edward Island Business Development Inc. Mr. Moore holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Prince Edward Island.

"We're certainly pleased to have someone of Mr. Moore's caliber accept the top leadership position in the Corporation. He'll be strong technically as a financial manager given his business background, and this became obvious during the recruitment process, but I was most impressed with his focus and track record of concentrating on the customer service side of the business. I think he's very well suited to take over the top job with Waste Watch at this point in time," said Jack Campbell, Chairman of IWMC Board of Directors. Mr Campbell also went on to say the following about the outgoing CEO, "Getting the Waste Watch program designed and implemented to this point has been a major undertaking and, on behalf of the Board, I want to acknowledge and thank Mr. Cleve Myers for his excellent work in leading the corporation through it's toughest time, and wish him all the best in the future."

Shea advised that the effective date of Mr. Moore's appointment is December 1. In order to ensure an orderly and efficient transition in management, Mr. Myers will stay on with the Corporation until December 5 to assist with the transition. Shea also thanked Mr. Myers for his service and significant contribution to getting Waste Watch successfully implemented across the province and to the other candidates for their interest in the CEO position.
