Legislative Assembly Will Open November 12

Premier Pat Binns today announced that he has requested that the Prince Edward Island Legislative Assembly open on Wednesday, November 12, 2003.

The Wednesday opening of the Legislature is a break from the tradition of opening on a Thursday. The earlier opening allows the members of the Opposition to attend their federal leadership convention taking place in Toronto from November 13 -15.

The First Session of the 62nd General Assembly will begin at 3 p.m. with the election of a new Speaker of the House.

Following the election of the new Speaker, the Lieutenant Governor, Honourable J. Léonce Bernard, will read the Speech from the Throne.

The swearing in ceremony for MLA’s will take place at the Legislative Assembly, beginning at 2 p.m.
