Technology PEI and OnTarget have announced an agreement, in principal, to develop a human resource development strategy for Prince Edward Island's emerging new media industry.
OnTarget is a human resource development and training company based in Toronto, Ontario providing government, education and industry with programs for the new media sector. OnTarget uses methodological and proven approaches designed to help create a highly skilled workforce, relevant and current training curricula, and a solid basis for long-term, sustainable economic development.
"We are extremely pleased to be working with OnTarget in the design and delivery of a number of their proven programs that will be customized specifically for Prince Edward Island," said Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. "Working with Technology PEI and other local companies, we expect this initiative to be a key building block in our development of the new media industry on Prince Edward Island."
OnTarget program director Mark Jones said the agreement is both a positive step for his company and for the new media industry on Prince Edward Island. Technology PEI and OnTarget recently completed a two-day summit on labour force issues affecting the new media industry on Prince Edward Island with input from government, educators and industry. Today's announcement is the result of key findings from the summit and is expected to be formalized in the coming weeks.
The Information Technology Association of PEI supports the study.
"ITAP looks forward to working with OnTarget to ensure that the most effective
HR Strategy Plan is in place for both the new and traditional media sectors," said Sandy Peardon, Executive Director of the Innovation and Technology Association of PEI.
Technology PEI is the Government of Prince Edward Island's lead agency in the development, adoption and use of information technology in business and community in the province.
