Technology PEI, in partnership with EasTech in the Pooles Corner Business Park, invites organizations to become involved in the successful unique program for youth groups and clubs — the Between Generations project. Organizations are invited to apply for funding up to maximum of $3600.
Between Generations focuses on bringing youth together with other generations to discuss historically significant events and create Web sites based on these events. Through this collaborative effort, local traditions and history are shared, discussed and maintained electronically. Once projects are completed, individual groups hold a site launch at their local CAP site or Community Centre to present their finished Web site to invited guest and participants.
The Between Generations program has proved to be a successful initiative for both seniors and youth. The program has also helped youth develop web creation and interviewing skills, and has also provided seniors with an opportunity to connect with youth and further their knowledge of the Internet.
Since the program was first introduced in 2000, thirty-six youth organizations from across Prince Edward Island have completed projects and launched their sites. Their stories and Web sites can be viewed at www.techpei.com.
"The Between Generations program has become an important way of bringing two generations together in an atmosphere where IT knowledge is shared with seniors and personal recollections and facts of community history are told through the eyes of those who've experience it," said Michael Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. "I encourage groups to participate."
Applicants to the program must be a recognized youth group or be affiliated with a youth group. This fall round of the program will allow five more groups to receive a maximum of $3600 for the purposes of expenditures necessary to complete the project. This year, EasTech is also offering a CD with information about the program, how to apply, program guidelines for equipment purchases, reporting timelines as well as other helpful tips.
