Ninety-five colts and fillies will be on auction at the second edition of the Atlantic Classic Standardbred Yearling Sale on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Charlottetown Civic Centre. Auctioneer Brian Craswell, of Rustico, Prince Edward Island and his team will be handling the sale.
This is the second Maritime sale this month, following on the heels of a record sale last week in Truro, Nova Scotia. "We are very optimistic about the prospects for this year's sale," said Clifford Affleck, sale committee chairman. "We feel that we have several quality colts and fillies on offer and, with the new Lady Slipper program, additional dollars are available for purses."
Last week's Truro sale saw a record equaling average price of $5,450. The top seller was a Lisryan - Equisite Hanover son, consigned by Dr. Bob Webster of Brookfield, Prince Edward Island; he was purchased for $21,000 by Mel Willis of Cambridge, Ontario.
The sale is being held during the Atlantic Breeders Crown weekend, which has the Atlantic Sires Stakes consolations on Saturday, at 1:30 p.m., and the Championship Finals on Sunday 1 p.m. at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
First crop sire Rayson Hanover has the most offspring in the sale, with sixteen. Overall, thirty two sires are represented in the sale, which features ten trotters on offer, much higher than usual.
