Horseback riders are invited to join in the second annual fall trail ride on the equestrian trail at the Forest Hill Wildlife Management Area Sunday, September 28.
The Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Environment is hosting the event in cooperation with the Boughton River Watershed Enhancement Association and the Prince Edward Island Horsemen's Association.
Riders are asked to meet at the horse corral on the Gay Road (Route 339) at 11 a.m. From there, they will proceed along the five-kilometre equestrian trail which offers some spectacular scenery. Thirty horses and riders enjoyed the first annual trail ride last year and even more are expected to take in the event this year.
The Forest Hill Wildlife Management Area is a 770-hectare parcel of land just north of Dundas. It is comprised of diverse woodland and encompasses two of the largest freshwater wetlands in the Prince Edward Island - Whitlock's Pond and Doc's Marsh, which are jointly managed by the Province and Ducks Unlimited Canada. The property is used extensively by people across Prince Edward Island for recreational activities such as fishing, hunting, hiking and wildlife viewing.
