May 13, 2003 Over 1200 people attended the Open Houses at the Atlantic Technology Centre (ATC), held earlier this month in Charlottetown. The Open House on Friday was for business people and attracted over 200 visitors, curious to see the facilities such as the boardroom and the training centre, which are available for rent. Saturday's event was open to the general public and attracted many families who were drawn by the Interactive Theatre and the chance to learn more about information technology and film and new media. "I am especially pleased to see that so many young people attended these events," said Development and Technology Minister Mike Currie. "The Atlantic Technology Centre is an investment for jobs right now – but it's also an investment in our future. We need young people to be challenged by the possibilities these industries bring." The ATC currently is home to 17 businesses employing over 250 people. The Centre was also prominently featured during IT Week with a series of industry open houses and displays. The Centre was highly endorsed by delegates to the CIPS conference, which was held last week in Charlottetown.Media Contact: Island Information Service
