The Honourable Elmer MacFadyen today announced new funding to assist the Wyatt Centre/Jubilee Theatre in addressing operating losses as part of a partnership with the city of Summerside and the Summerside Regional Development Corporation (SRDC).

"In keeping with our commitment to culture, we are pleased to make this financial commitment to assist this important community organization for the city of Summerside and all of Prince Edward Island," said Minister MacFadyen. "With assurance of operating funds, the centre will be able to undertake long-range planning and programming and better respond to the cultural needs of the community."

The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs will contribute up to $100,000 per year, for a three-year period, to address operating losses at the Wyatt Centre/Jubilee Theatre.

The city of Summerside will be making a commitment of up to $50,000 per year to assist with the operations of the building. The Summerside Regional Development Corporation will also contribute up to $50,000. Both of these commitments are also for a three-year period.

Mayor Basil Stewart stated, "The city of Summerside is very pleased to provide this contribution to the Wyatt Centre and Jubilee Theatre. This venue plays an important role in our downtown community. On behalf of city council, I would like to thank the province and SRDC for their support and partnership in Summerside."

"This centre is a first-class cultural venue and the commitment of both the province and the city of Summerside recognizes the importance of the centre and the tremendous service it provides for all Islanders," said Minister MacFadyen.
