Minister of Education Gordon MacInnis and the PEI Home and School Federation are pleased to announce Prince Edward Island’s participation in the Ninth Annual Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. The nationally celebrated week runs February 11 to 17, 1996.

"Every person in this province has reason to be proud of Prince Edward Island’s education system," said the Hon. Gordon MacInnis. "We boast a consistent and quality curriculum, a number of our schools have won national awards, and our teachers and school staff rank among the most dedicated and professional in the field. National Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week is a time to recognize the efforts of teachers, school secretaries, school nurses, teacher assistants, guidance counsellors, custodians and bus drivers - all of whom make important contributions to the lives of Island students."

National Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week was started in 1988 by the Canadian Home and School and Parent-Teacher Federation. It was, and remains today a unique opportunity for parents and others interested in education to demonstrate their support for Canada’s schools, teachers and school staff.

"Home and school members would like to join with the Department of Education in recognizing the important role that caring and competent educators and school staff play in good schools and excellence in education," said Corina Bolo, president of the PEI Home and School Federation. "I hope everyone will help acknowledge Island teachers and school staff by participating in the many special events scheduled throughout the week."

Details on specific events can be obtained from local home and school associations.
