Island Companies Prepare for International Boston Seafood Show

Prince Edward Island companies will soon be heading to the 2003 International Boston Seafood Show (IBSS), from March 11-13, to meet and do business with the seafood world. The IBSS showcases PEI seafood companies on an international stage to meet existing customers, negotiate prices, introduce new products, promote existing products and identify new key markets in the seafood industry.

With a reputation as the premier seafood event in North America, this show is a yearly event that attracts thousands of seafood professionals to visit the Hynes Convention Centre in downtown Boston.

"PEI will be well represented at this year's event," said Michael F. Currie, Minister of Development & Technology. "We have a lot to offer when it comes to high-quality fresh and value-added seafood products, and I am confident that our participating Island seafood companies will experience positive results by attending this prestigious show."

Exports of seafood products are a significant contributor to the Island economy. In 2002, exports of seafood and seafood products were worth over $200 million.

The 1,000 square-foot PEI Pavilion will include such exhibitors as: Polar Foods International, Charlottetown Metal Products, Atlantic Mussel Growers Corporation, PEI Seafood Processors Association, Atlantic Shellfish, PEI Mussel King, Palmer Seafood, and Beach Point Specialty Foods.

This show also plays host to other PEI companies such as Howards Cove Shellfish, Prince Edward Aqua Farms, Atlantic Aqua Farms, and Confederation Cove Shellfish and Alchem Industries.

The Boston show will also be attended by several PEI processors and fishers who will be looking for new ideas, viewing the competition and renewing acquaintances.

Prince Edward Island Business Development (PEIBD) is the lead economic development agency for the province of Prince Edward Island. With this particular show, PEIBD is responsible for coordinating all of the activities taking place at the PEI Pavilion within the Show site.
