The Summerside Human Resource Centre and Access PEI are now located under one roof. The recent move provides clients in the Summerside area with better access to all of the Human Resource Centre's programs and services and over 100 provincial government services.
Joe McGuire, Member of Parliament for Egmont and Helen MacDonald, MLA for St. Eleanors-Summerside, toured the facility today during an open house at the co-located offices at 120 Harbour Drive.
"The Government of Canada is committed to enhancing in-person, telephone and electronic access to its program and services," said Mr. McGuire, on behalf of the Honourable Jane Stewart, Minister of Human Resources Development Canada. "This is one example of how we are working to improve access to our in-person services."
The Summerside Human Resource Centre provides a range of programs and services for individuals, businesses and community organizations. They include career and human resource planning information; job bank kiosks; funding programs for youth, unemployed clients, and organizations; and financial benefits such as Employment Insurance, Canada Pension and Old Age Security.
"This co-location not only provides customers easier access to government services, it also gives the staff the opportunity to work together more effectively by providing their clients with a broad variety of service options in one location," said Helen MacDonald, representing Development and Technology Minister Mike Currie. "The Province of Prince Edward Island recognizes centralized service delivery as an invaluable avenue to community development as well as quality service delivery."
Access PEI provides one stop shopping for over 100 government services, including building permits, driver's license renewals, marriage licenses, program and job applications, business registrations as well as information on a number of government programs and services.
Telephone numbers and hours of operation for each office remain unchanged. The Human Resource Centre is open Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Access PEI is open 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (winter hours).
