Technology PEI Inc., in partnership with KenNet Inc., is receiving applications for its award winning Between Generations program.
Recognized by an Industry Canada's CanConnect Award for Excellence in fostering information and communication technology skills in youth and their communities, Between Generations focuses on bringing youth together with other generations to discuss historically significant events and create Web sites based on these events. Through this collaborative effort, local traditions and history are shared, discussed and maintained electronically.
The Between Generations program has proved to be a successful initiative for both seniors and youth. The program has helped youth develop web creation and interviewing skills and has also provided seniors with an opportunity to connect with youth and further their knowledge of the Internet.
Organizations are invited to apply for funding up to a maximum of $4,000.
Twenty seven (27) youth organizations from across Prince Edward Island have previously completed projects and launched their sites. Their stories and Web sites can be viewed at http://www.techpei.com.
"Between Generations has become an important way of introducing technology to both our seniors and our youth and, at the same time, is encouraging dialogue between the generations," said the Honourable Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. "I encourage groups to participate."
Applicants to the program must be a recognized youth group or be affiliated with a youth group. Funding to a maximum of $4,000 will be provided to the group for the purposes of equipment purchases, staffing, or other expenditures necessary to complete the project.
Between Generations is a special initiative by Technology PEI under its strategic mandate to increase community preparedness for the new knowledge-based economy.
Applications are available online at http://www.techpei.com or by contacting Kendra Gaudet or Norman Dewar at KenNet Inc., (902) 836-4003. Deadline for applications is Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at 3 pm.
