Hon. Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology, along with Kevin MacAdam, MLA for District # 2 Morell-Fortune Bay, today announced $145,000 in provincial assistance for community projects in Morell and St. Peters.

The province is providing $105,000 toward the construction of a soccer/baseball complex, an initiative of the Morell Area Lions Club. This contribution represents Phase I of a two-phase project. Land has been purchased for the complex and construction is slated to begin this fall.

The provincial funding is through the Department of Development and Technology, Department of Community and Cultural Affairs and Department of Transportation and Public Works.

"The province remains committed to building and supporting communities," said Minister Currie. "Morell has always been a hotbed for recreational and sporting activity. We are pleased to be a partner in the promotion of sport and leisure in the area."

The province also presented a $40,000 cheque to the St. Peters and Area Development Corporation for waterfront development improvements in St. Peters.

"I am pleased with the provincial government support of two important projects in this district," said Mr. MacAdam. "The re-development of the St. Peters waterfront and the construction of a recreational complex in Morell have been top priorities. I look forward to working with community leaders toward continued growth in District # 2."

Minister Currie and Mr. MacAdam presented cheques to Sheryll O'Hanley, Vice Chair of the Greenwich/St Peters Area Development Corporation and to Paul Runighan of the Morell Area Lions Club.
