The grand finale celebrations of the Women's Institute Legacy Bike Tour at North Cape will be held Friday, September 13 at the Tignish Parish Centre, winding up a tremendously successful tour. The participating bikers will be piped into the centre at 6:00 pm, to enjoy a wonderful meal followed by great entertainment.
The tour was an outstanding success this year with a total of 150 participating, the largest organized group of bikers ever to tour the Confederation Trail. "I am so happy to see the tour grow in size and stature," noted Tourism Minister, Jeffrey Lantz. "This type of activity gives everyone the opportunity to put the trail system to the use that was intended when the idea of a tip-to-tip trail was conceived. Congratulations to the organizers for a successful event."
Two noted journalists joined the Legacy Bike Tour for the entire five days. These journalists were invited to join in the tour by Tourism PEI, and they are planning a series of articles on the Bike Tour Event to be published in some prestigious North American papers and magazines. The opportunity to have the journalists join in the tour is an excellent means to promote the beauty of the Confederation Trail and, indeed, all of Prince Edward Island.
The Canadian journalist is Laura Byrne Paquet. Laura is from Ottawa and is a regular contributor to: Islands, The Ottawa Citizen, City Magazine, CARP News, Les Ailes, Montreal Gazette, National Geographic Traveler, The Edmonton Journal and several other publications.
The American journalist is Margie Goldsmith from New York. Margie already has assignments from Metro Sports, to be published in five cities in the Northeast US, and plans to pitch more articles to lifestyles magazines. Margie also writes for the New York Post.
The bikers on tour are visiting Prince Edward Island from the United States, British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and of course Prince Edward Island.
