New Tool For IT Job Seekers And Employers

When Tom Campbell of TACS Software Programming of Charlottetown went looking for a new employee he didn't have to go far. Campbell accessed a new job recruitment tool available in Prince Edward Island, an Information Technology (IT) jobs registry.

Developed by the Government of Prince Edward Island web development team, and administered by Technology PEI Inc., the IT registry allows those looking for work in IT, Television and New Media to register, post their resumes and receive updates on possible job opportunities in the private sector.

The registry is accessible to Prince Edward Island companies, and companies planning to do business in the province, who are seeking IT, Television or New Media employees. IT employers can also post job opportunities on a Job Board feature.

The Honourable Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology says there are economic benefits to the registry.

"There are almost 600 names on this registry, half of which are Islanders or Islanders living away who wish to come home," said Minister Currie. "This tool will allow companies looking at expanding or locating in PEI to quickly access a database of capable, well trained individuals to meet their needs. We are certainly looking for every advantage we can get, to grow businesses and create new jobs in PEI."

"In my business, new contracts often mean a requirement for additional staff, and the staffing-up process must happen very quickly," said Campbell. "I was impressed with the quality and diversity of the resumes on the IT jobs registry. Within a matter of minutes I had three qualified people identified. I set up some interviews and within a week had hired Michael Metcalfe, who was working at Nortel previously and had moved home for family reasons. When the opportunity arises to hire again, the first place I will visit is this site."

"I was surprised there was an IT job registry for PEI," said Metcalfe, who was hired by TACS Software Programming. "It was encouraging when it was pointed out to me. Immediately after I registered I started receiving IT job postings for PEI, and it was not long before I was contacted for employment opportunities."

To register and post your resume go online at www.gov.pe.ca/jobspei. Employers can register for access to the online service at www.techpei.com/itrecruit.
