Prince County Hospital Name Moves to New Facility

* East Prince Health Region [to Nov 2005]
After a process of gathering community input to name the new East Prince Health Facility, the the East Prince Health Board is pleased to announce that the new facility will be called "Prince County Hospital."

Last year, a Name the Facility Committee was struck by the East Prince Health Board and Chaired by Dr. Allen MacLean. Membership included representatives from staff and community. At the * East Prince Health Region [to Nov 2005] Annual Meeting last November, the Board announced the Name the Facility process and invited public, physicians and staff to submit name suggestions. The announcement at the Annual Meeting was followed up with a variety of community promotions on the naming process.

Over eighty people including community residents, staff, physicians, present and past East Prince Board members took the opportunity to submit name ideas. Exactly 50 percent of the submissions requested that the name "Prince County Hospital" be retained for the new facility. Based on naming process, the East Prince Health Board forwarded three suggestions to government for a final decision. At a recent cabinet meeting, government accepted the recommendations from the Committee and decided to retain the Prince County Hospital name.

Dr. MacLean said, "the name Prince County Hospital was chosen because it was clearly the community's most popular choice. Also, we felt that the name reflected the desire to carry along the strong traditions of service excellence and community partnership for which the present Prince County Hospital is known."

With the name remaining the same, we also felt that the new health facility, currently being constructed off Granville Street in Summerside, will be easily recognized and understood as Prince County's new hospital," added Dr. MacLean.

Work continues to move along briskly at the new Prince County Hospital construction site. East Prince Partnerships Limited, the company contracted to build the facility, has closed in 100 percent of the building and is concentrating on finalizing exterior building detail such as siding, masonry, and window units.

Interior stud/masonry work is also currently being carried out. Masonry contractors have finalized brick laying in both courtyards. Plumbing, heating, ventilation, and electrical equipment continues to be installed at the facility.

Other recent milestones include completion of structural steel for the 2nd floor including the 3rd floor maintenance penthouse and roof deck.
